Not the pattern I expected...

I haven't gotten started on this pattern and I'm seeing a couple of errors or mistakes in some of the pattern. It turns out that if I use the hook that it calls for and the yarn I already have, the stitch gauge would be a little too tight, and it wouldn't necessarily look like this. The finished product looks like it's a diagonal shape and not straight because of the increasing and decreasing- It's just not what I expected. But it's lovely!
