FREE PATTERN FRIDAY: Colorblock Cotton Fanny Pack Crochet Pattern

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED

The designer of this pattern, Ellie Price, is awesome. We know this for certain because she joined us for an episode of the Made with Love Experiment, which you can check out here. This colorblock fanny pack pattern was inspired by the travels enjoyed by Ellie and her husband, who live in a new location every month. Ellie specifically designed this fanny pack with our cotton t-shirt yarn because she wants crocheted items to be more functional, and this yarn is machine washable and easy to care for.

ZIPPER PREP

Prepping the zipper of your fanny pack

Step 1:  To prep the zipper for crocheting, fasten on with your lightweight yarn and finishing needle. Tie on just before the zipper start and 1/4 inch from the edge.

Step 2:  Using the lightweight yarn and finishing needle, work your way down the length of the zipper making blanket stitches every ~1/2 inch until you are just past the endpoint of your zipper. You should have 16 blanket stitches along the side. Once you reach the end of the zipper, make one stitch across the endpoint and then work your way back down the other side of the zipper, making 16 more, mirroring the stitches on the other side. Work one more stitch across the back of the zipper and end where you began. Fasten off and leave long tails for weaving. <34 sts>

Fanny Pack - attaching the waist strap

Worked flat.

Begin: Ch 6.

Rows 1-3: Ch 1. sc across. <6 sts>

Finishing: Fasten off and leave ends long for sewing and assembly.

ASSEMBLY

Step 1:  Sew on your waist strap guides to the back side of your fanny pack (either side can be the back side, pick your favorite!). Sew them in a vertical position (shorter side on top) on either side of the pack, along the top edge. Sew the top and bottom edges of the guides securely to the pack.

Step 2:  Take your woven waist strap and buckle and thread them through the guides on the back of your fanny pack. Strap your fanny pack around your waist and you are good to go!

Note:  If you purchased your woven waist strap and buckle separately, you will need to sew them together at a size that will fit your waist. If they came together and sized correctly, no other sewing is needed.
