The sample photo uses a variegated yarn, which hides the pattern's interesting details. Knit in a solid color yarn this is a very lovely pattern. I know DGY wants to sell their variegated yarns, but they have solid colors, too, and wish they would show samples of patterns such as this so people can see the actual stiches. I probably saw this pattern & passed it by many times, & am sure others have, too, because I thought it was just a common cable hat until one day I looked closely.
Thanks for the 5-start feedback. Enjoy crafting! :slightly_smiling:
I have come to love most of the DGY knitting patterns that I have received either through my boxes or separate purchases and this was no exception. It was easy enough to make for someone with experience working with cabling and texture. The finished product was gorgeous. One of my favorite things about this particular pattern is that I was able to make the same pattern work for hats for my husband, son, and daughters. Most patterns that look cute for my girls are too feminine for my boys and most it look good on the men in my house seemed just a little too bland for my girls. The style of this pattern was able to give texture and detail for both without swaying too far one way or the other. I used rich solids for my guys and bright and shimmery pinks, purples, and variegated yarns for my girls to tip the balance. I also added pom poms to the top of the girls hats for a little something extra. I love this patterns so much that I made several of them back to back in one day. I am sure you will love this pattern as much as I did.
