Spike: A Spike is the loop picked up to create the star stitch. To pick up a loop, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a loop.
Foundation
Ch 22 or any even number of sts to measure 6” and add 2 more chains for the foundation.
Row 1 (Wrong side): 1sc in 2nd ch from hook and every chain across. (21 sts)
Row 2: ch3, turn, pick up a loop in the 2nd & 3rd ch from the hook, pick up a loop in each of the next 3 sc sts, yo, pull through all 6 loops on your hook, ch1. *pick up a loop in the ch1 sp, pick up a loop in the side of the last spike, pick up a loop inserting hook in the same st as the last spike st, pick up a loop in each of the next 2 sc sts (6 loops and hook), yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch1. Repeat from * across.
Row 3: turn, 1sc in every st across.
Please note: The last sc st is worked into the 3rd ch from the ch3 in row 2 and is a little difficult to see.
Repeat Rows 2 - 3 five more times for a total of 13 rows.
Fasten off & block to 6x6 square.
