Do you have trouble eating your bananas before they go bad? A great way to extend the life of your bananas is to cover their stems to reduce the amount of ethylene gas (a ripening agent) they can absorb. A great DIY hack is to cover the stems of your bunch of bananas using aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
These solutions, while helpful, are not very attractive to look at. So we injected a little bit of whimsy into the equation! Check out this crochet banana saver hat which can be slipped over the aluminum foil to keep your bananas fresh and stylin’!
Materials required:
- Darn Good Twist Sport Weight Silk yarn (5 grams)
- 3.5mm crochet hook
- 2 small buttons

Make a magic ring.
Row 1: Ch1, 6sc. Slst join
Row 2: Ch1, 2sc in each st. slst join (12 sc)
Row 3: Ch1, *Sc, 2sc in next st* *around. Slst to join. (18sc)
Row 4: Ch1, *2 sc, 2sc in next st* *around. Slst to join (24sc)
Row 5-12: Ch1, Sc around, slst to join (24 sc)
Legs:
Ch 14, working into back bumps of chain.2 sc into second chain from hook, sc, 2 sc into next stitch, sc , 2 sc into next stitch, 1 sc, 2 sc into next stitch, 1 sc, 2 sc into next stitch, 4 sc. 1 sc into first st of main body round, 2 sc. *Ch 14, working into back bumps of chain. 2 sc into second chain from hook, sc, 2 sc into next stitch, sc , 2 sc into next stitch, 1 sc, 2 sc into next stitch, 1 sc, 2 sc into next stitch, 4 sc. 1 sc into first st of main body round, 2 sc.* Repeat around, slst to join.
Finishing:
Break yarn, weave in ends. Attach button eyes.
