What Are Chakras?

It’s amazing how much of our current day-to-day lives are affected by beliefs and traditions from thousands of years ago. Chakras, a concept from the beginning of Hinduism (from around 1500 and 500 BC) are a very important aspect or Tantra of Hinduism.

Chakra, meaning “wheel” in Sanskrit, refers to the wheels within us that are made of energy. Everybody has even these wheels that align along our spines. Each wheel is associated with a different color, organs, elements, gemstones, and emotions. These chakra wheels have been referred to as having important effects on our spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental health.

The Function Of The Purple Chakra

The final chakra is our purple chakra, called Sahasrara, meaning “'thousand-petaled.” This chakra is found at the crown of your head and is associated with the colors purple and white. Sahasrara is the center of enlightenment and is the most spiritual of all the chakras. Sahasrara is meant to control spirituality, consciousness, and enlightenment. 

The crown chakra has an effect on: 

• Hypothalamus 
• Pituitary Gland
• The Brain 
• Nervous System 

The Sahasrara chakra is also associated with gemstones: 

• Clear Quartz 
• Amethyst 
• Howlite
• Labradorite 

It’s important to stay attuned with your crown chakra! If your Sahasrara is ever blocked it can cause a blockage of energy, disrupt your equilibrium, and cause mental issues! It will also disrupt your connection to the spiritual. When the crown chakra is balanced, it is said that people can have amazing capabilities! It is said that the purple chakra is the most powerful and potent energy out of all the chakras.

Our Sahasrara chakra is symbolized with a gorgeous light purple and gleaming white. Across the world, the color purple has multiple cultural, societal, and spiritual meanings. There’s also personal connections to colors as well which can influence your relationship with colors. 

In the traditional Hindu sense, purple symbolizes: 

• Future 
• Dreams 
• Inspiration 
• Compassion 
• Spiritual Enlightenment 
• Psychic Ability

Purple is often associated with spirituality and royalty. It is very uncommon in nature, further deepening purple’s association with the paranormal, spiritual, and divine. Since it was so rare to find purple and very expensive to create purple fibers, it was reserved for the highest of society. This is why purple is still often associated with luxury and power.
