The Pattern

In order to make neat edge stitches and create a chain edge, the first stitch of every row is always slipped knitwise and the last stitch of every row is always purled. The raspberry stitch consists of multiples of 4 stitches, and there are 4 rows to the pattern that are being repeated.

Change skeins on the wrong side of the work, preferably not at the edges but rather somewhere in the middle of  the row (this way the edges will be consistent and you won’t be able to see anything on the right side)!

Cast on 50 stitches on your US size 15 / 10 mm double pointed OR circular needles and start knitting on the wrong  side of the work.

  • Row 1 (wrong side): SL1K, *(K1, P1, K1) into 1 stitch, P3tog* repeat *_* 12 times and P1
  • Row 2 (right side): SL1K, purl all stitches
  • Row 3 (wrong side): SL1K, *P3tog, (K1, P1, K1) into 1 stitch* repeat *_* 12 times and P1
  • Row 4 (right side): SL1K, purl all stitches

Knit rows 1-4 for 16 times or until the blanket is approximately 23 inches / 60 cm high. Finish by knitting row 1 once more and bind off stitches on the right side of the work in the following way:

  • Step 1: Knit 2 stitches
  • Step 2: Lift the first stitch over the second stitch and drop it off the end of the needle.
  • Step 3: Knit one stitch.
  • Step 4: Repeat step 2 and then keep repeating steps 2-3 until you have one stitch left on your needle. Cut the yarn, thread the end through the remaining stitch and pull tightly to secure the work.

Finishing Touches:

Weave in ends and on the wrong side of your work and voilà, your knit baby blanket is ready!
