Our Favorite Ways to Wear a Sari Wrap Skirt
Watch these how-to videos we made!
Hey everyone it’s Nicole over at Darn Good Yarn and I wanted to just do a little quick video of my favorite ways to wear the sari skirts, which is like our most popular in the summer. I know we sell yarn but like these skirts, because they're made for reclaimed saris, they're always really popular with us. So I'm going to show you a couple ways to wear the skirt aside from just wearing a skirt. This one I have with me today is a 34 inch long regular skirt. I have three different lengths, one comes like right above your knees, one comes right below your knees, the other one is your 34 inch that goes about to your ankles. So you can wear a lot of these styles in any of the lengths. It's really like if you want to wear leggings under it or if you just want to wear it as a skirt.
So this is the most basic way. Each one of these skirts have little holes sewn into the band so this is going to help you make a lot of the cool little ways to wear the skirt. So this is just the basic way. I think a lot of you who have a skirt like this have worn it like this. That's just me threading it through and then tying it on the side. Now a little, this is like a little Nicole note, I had these sari skirts in my wardrobe for I don't know like five years and I don't do bows like you could do a bow like this and I don't. I just like to do sort of a half bow tie it around and secure it like that because then it doesn't get super bulky. So the first thing, the first way you can sort of just change it around as you take this top layer and move it around to your side so the opening is on your side here. Take this layer then you're going to pull that layer a little bit more this way and you can tie it ,make it look all pretty tie it down, and then you get like a little bit more of a butt thing going on. It looks really cute and you want to make it nice and tight and that's a really cute way to wear for style, and the other cool thing is that it's reversible. The longer layer on the outside and then tie it down as well now the other way you can wear this skirt is just normally, but just a cute little variation is again take this top layer and then you're going to wrap it around and pull it pull it from the edge and wrap it around and again it's creating like waist and a nice little silhouette and then you're just tucking that tail into the top of the skirt so then it's like really cute that way and you can wear a t-shirt with it if you just get a cute little butt effect. All right so that's your first way to wear it and I'm going to come back and show you the next way to wear it that I love.
This is a nice little cool way to wear this skirt as a dress super easy to do and it's great, I especially like this if like you you're trying to hide a little bit of like winter padding that some of us might have and haven't really like worked off. So all you do is you take the skirt and you can do either layer the long layer or the short layer on the outside. You're going to hold it, wrap it around you're going to put kind of high up on your back and whatever layer you want to show off make sure that that's on your left-hand side. So like I like the sort of tie dye thing so I'm going to keep this for the last so take this and you're going to put this over your boobies and let that sort of hang out on the side here and then you're going to take this spot here and you're going to make it come up on one side and just take this tail and throw it over your back. Okay so now you have like a one-sided dress now from here you can just tie this together and that's really cute, just tie a bow in the back and you're all secured and nothing's popping out that shouldn't be popping out, but what I like to do because I'm always you know I like to make sure I have like a cute little silhouette thing going. I will take this in the back and just simply cross it and then bring you to the front and then I have this extra play and I actually use it as a belt that's what I like to do because then it's like hassle-free wearing of the skirt and there you go. And it's really cute again if you have pooch and you're expecting like really adorable as Joey likes to say she's like aw like you're putting a little bow on your package and I'm like I don't know if that package is a baby or my fat. But there you go it's a bow on my package and the cool thing with this especially if you have a shorter skirt like the 19-inch or the one that goes just below your knees you can wear leggings with this because the skirt will come up a little bit higher you wear cute leggings and the drapey sweater and it's a really super adorable so there's that style and again don't forget you can change it. You can change what layers on the outside so it's just cute and on to the next one.
Okay everyone so here we are I'm going to show you how to take your skirt into a dress and this is super easy. I'm going to show you two different ways to wear the style as well. So you have your skirt here, find that center hole on your skirt and again you can do this with any length, and you're just going to wear leggings for the shorter lengths. So you're going to line that up here on your chest and the hole is here and you're going to take the ends, you're going to wrap them behind you like this and it's not like a super F, you're just doing one over the other. You don't want to create bulk. If you're wearing a strapless bra you're just going to pull that up over the bra so it stays put where it needs to be. So now you have the two tails here, now the next thing you do is take these strings and you're going to put them through that center hole. You'll see why in a second because you want it nice and tight so stuff doesn't go popping out this shouldn't be popping out. You don't want that. Let's see here put the other one through, all right, so here you go here so you have them here and you're just going to want to cross them over, so you're just getting that extra little cinch and from there you tie it in the back like this you can do a bow or whatever you like. I like a bow in case you have to adjust it during the night if stuff sort of shifts around underneath then this is just one way to wear this outfit now you can put a belt on it yourself. Or another really cute thing is you just take the top layer here, find the backside of it and then we just simply tie it down nice and low or whatever sort of silhouette what you want to create yourself. Me, I like to have it a little bit lower hide some of the you know extra stuff going on here and then that's it. That's your simple two ways to wear one skirt.
Okay so you've been a skirt, you have been a dress and now we're going to turn you into a shawl and that was Joey that helped me with that copy because I'm not that clever, but anyway, here we go. You have your skirt and then drape it around as if you're going to wear a shawl, I'm doing the short layer out this time. Just take your ends here and you're going to wrap them underneath and you're going to tie them. I'm just going to show you in the back behind your back, let me just do that. I guess you sorta have to stretch your shoulders out when you're gonna do this so you don't get cramps or anything like that. It's like scratching your own back here alright so I'm just tying those. Okay, so for now I have just a quick little shawl which is really cute. Now the variation on this is that I just have to take the top layer here just cinch it up a little bit. I'm going to bring it up to my shoulders and then here's the first look and turn around we still have the coverage in your back, and then for the next look you're just taking all of this all of the skirt and you're putting it up onto your shoulder so it gives you that drapey look and what's really cute is that this is like adorable for the beach and just a little coverup like if you're sitting in your beach chair and you want to sort of cover things up that's really cute too. So you have an exposed back as well. And then the last way to wear this is you take this bottom layer the shorter layer and you find the ends you just simply do a nice gentle little knot or you need to wrap it like you just do an over-and-under so it doesn't get super bulky and flatten it out and then you have coverage as well for your chest and you can bring that down as well in the back if you want to have the coverage on the back as well which is really cute for like an outdoor concert or something like that. So there you go! I hope you love all the ways, these are my favorite ways to wear the sari skirt and they're super easy and they're really flattering and that's it so for more information come visit me at the website darngoodyarn.com.
